Local Inmate electrocuted at Huntsville prisonTuesday, October 20, 2009 | 4:40 PM Todd Hughes, 39, was working with an inmate maintenance crew on a broken water line when he was electrocuted, apparently by an adjacent electrical line HUNTSVILLE, TX (KTRK) -- A Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate died Tuesday afternoon while performing maintenance work on an underground water main outside of the Huntsville "Walls" Unit.
According to TDCJ, the inmate, Todd Hughes, 39, was working with an inmate maintenance crew on a broken water line when he was electrocuted, apparently by an adjacent electrical line, at about 3pm. Hughes was transported to Huntsville Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A second inmate was treated in the unit's infirmary.
Hughes was serving a seven year sentence for intoxication manslaughter out of Orange County. He was received by TDCJ on July 3, 2007.
